Hurricanes' run ends with a second straight state final appearance
      Shrewsbury - The Shrewsbury Hurricanes Girls Under-14 team has blown across the soccer pitch for the last time. The Hurricanes' bid for a second consecutive Massachusetts Tournament of Champions (MTOC) Division 1 state title came up just short, the result of a loss in the semifinal round to eventual champion Ludlow.

      Marlborough - Post 132's 12-6 come-from-behind, extra inning win over Shrewsbury Post 397 July 11 was a quintessential parallel to Marlborough's just completed American Legion baseball season. For six innings, Post 132 couldn't scratch across even one run, had only a few hits to its credit and trailed 4-0.

The eyes have it
      Hudson - Hudson's Casey Rivers watches the ball all the way into his glove, easily handling a hot shot off the bat of a Blackstone batter in a Stan Musial League game between the teams July 10 at Sauta Field in Hudson. Hudson won the game, 9-6, scoring all nine of its runs in the first two innings. Rivers did his part at the plate, too, smacking a pair of singles.
