John C. Wanamaker, 74 Fort Myers, Fla. - John C. Wanamaker, 74, formerly of Hudson, died Wednesday, July 9 at the HCR Manor Care in Fort Myers. He is survived by his wife and dear friend, Joan (Hunt) Wanamaker; his children, Lori Peloquin, Diane Kerwin, Lisa Reynolds and Dan Wanamaker; and 10 grandchildren. Born and raised in Bayside, N.Y., the son of John and Mary (Highfield) Wanamaker, he was the lone child of his parents and lost his father at the age of 7. He was a devoted son to his mother after his father's passing and continued to care for her until her passing. He moved to Hudson in 1968 and resided there until 2004, when he moved to North Fort Myers. Mr. Wanamaker was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army, and was employed as a Director of Reps for the Registry of Motor Vehicles in Boston until retiring in 2001. He was an avid sports fan and an active member of the Brooklyn Dodgers Fan Club, as well as a season ticket holder of the Patriots, Celtics, Red Sox and Bruins. He was a life member of the Hudson Elks and a member of St. Michael's Parish in Hudson. A funeral mass was celebrated July 14 from St. Michael's Church, with burial at Saint Michael's Cemetery. The Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home of Hudson directed arrangements.
