Transportation infrastructure: Where do we stand?

      Region - Almost every day there is a news release about problems with our transportation system. Recently a new report released from the nonprofi t group TRIP found that Massachusetts's problems continue to grow. The cost of the repairs to just maintain our system continues to increase as we delay the inevitable work.

Hogging the spotlight
      Marlborough - Three not-so-little pigs from the Hillside School Farm had their shot at fame recently, cast as colonial-era farm pigs in the production of WGBH's "American Experience" TV series. The new TV stars are Tamworth pigs, one of the oldest breeds from Europe, which look exactly like the pigs colonists used on their farms.

Correction
      Due to a reporting error in "Selectman takes heat for comments," in the July 18 Regional issue of the Community Advocate, we stated that a Special Town Meeting would cost Shrewsbury "tens of thousands of dollars." According to Town Manager Dan Morgado, the actual cost would range from $400 to $1,200. We regret any confusion caused by this error.

Resident objects to selectmen's decision
      Shrewsbury Town Selectmen or Soviet Politburo?' First of all I would like to state that I do not know Mr. [Matt] Grenier nor do I have a financial interest in his proposed business. However, I feel compelled to take up this issue because I feel that this is a case of government overreaching and hurting our town.

Program coordinator offers thanks for book drive
      Dear Editor, The Assabet Valley Area Family Network would like to acknowledge the generosity of the many people who recently donated books to our Family Literacy Program. Marianna Spera, a rising senior at Hudson High School, initiated a book drive for the Family Literacy Program, which resulted in a donation of over 800 books for distribution to area families!
