      Hudson - Disabled American Veteran Chapter 82 members Bill Higgins and Mike Flynn thank contributors LuAnne Fails and her daughter, Janelle Berte, as they participate in the "Forget-Me-Not" campaign, Aug. 22 at Wal-Mart. The fund-raiser benefits area disabled veterans and will continue at local merchants through Saturday Sept. 6.

Helping 'Jerry's Kids'
      Hudson - Hudson firefighter Rob O'Hare collects donations from passing motorists downtown for the annual "Fill the Boot" campaign to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Locally, the drive took place Aug. 22. Since 1954, the firefighters' fund-raiser has brought in more than $300 million nationally for the charity.

Garden selected as best along the rail trail
      Hudson - Hudson resident Ivo Matias stands in his garden, which borders the Assabet River Rail Trail (ARRT), after receiving an award for the nicest garden along the trail. This summer is the first time that ARRT has given out the award and hopes to continue the tradition in the coming years.

      Hudson - Hudson Garden Club's opening meeting will be Monday Sept. 15 at the Elk's Club on Park Street at 7 p.m. Sandra Meyers Cohen will be giving a hands-on demonstration and workshop on "The Language of Flowers." Attendees will make "Tussie Mussies" (miniature bouquets) with the theme of friendship.

      Hudson - Erin Graziano and her son Jack, 1, pet an alligator following an "Animal Adventures" presentation held Aug. 20 at Liberty Park, hosted by the Hudson Public Library Children's Room. With a hands-on approach, children learned about many animals, including a tortoise, a tarantula, a chinchilla, a skunk and a boa constrictor.
