Wayside to host Forrest Memorial Road Race Marlborough - The 24th Annual Forrest Memorial 5k Road Race will be held Sunday Sept. 28 at the Wayside Racquet and Swim Club in Marlborough, with registration beginning at 9 a.m. and race time at 11 a.m. There is a $15 fee to register in advance; the fee is $20 on race day. The race is held in memory of Jim Forrest, who was very active in Marlborough recreation and Marlborough politics. He was a city councilor for more than 20 years and a founding member of the Boys & Girls Club, and he was on the Board of Directors of the Marlborough Recreation Department. He did all this while raising nine children. For the first 10 years of the race, all proceeds were donated to the Marlborough Boys & Girls Club. During that time proceeds from the race were used to send over 400 underprivileged children to summer camp. Proceeds were also used to install a new stateof the-art scoreboard in the gym, which is still there to this day. Over the last 12 years, proceeds from the race have been donated to the Greater Marlborough Programs Inc. (GMPI) Social and Recreation Department. During this time, the road race fund has donated over $185,000 to these programs. Several GMPI programs are funded entirely from donations from the race and would have to be discontinued if proceeds were not received from the race on a yearly basis. The second annual 1.5- mile walk for all children and adults with developmental disabilities will also take place. The $15 fee will include a T-shirt and postrace barbecue. Registration is needed by Monday Sept 22. To register, contact Jim Karami, GMPI director, adult program, at 508-485- 4227 or Karen Rae, Special Olympics Marlborough, school-aged children coordinator at 508-624-0054.
