Heritage Festival Art Contest winners selected
      Marlborough - The Heritage Festival Committee recently awarded savings bonds to three city students in recognition of artwork they each submitted to the annual Festival Art Contest. The Festival Committee received dozens of entries and had originally planned to name only a first-place winner, but this year opted to name two honorable mention award winners as well.

Local scout reaches Eagle rank
      Marlborough - Tom Martinez was honored in a Court of Honor for achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. The campfire ceremony took place at Camp Resolute, Bolton, while Troop 303 was participating in summer camp activities in July. For his project, Martinez supervised the building and installation of a kiosk for the canoe and boat launch on Robin Hill Road, Marlborough.

State to hold celebration of 'White Cane Day'
      Marlborough - The Marlboro Lions Club is on a mission to inform the community about the upcoming International White Cane Day celebration. The celebration is taking place on the Grand Staircase at the State House Wednesday Oct. 15 from 10 a.m. to noon.

Avidia foundation donates funds to school organizations
     Marlborough - Below: (l to r) Carol Parker, SVP, Human Resources at Avidia Bank; Lee Woodworth, director of Special Project for the Marlborough Public Schools Music Association; and David Morticelli, Marlborough branch manager of Avidia Bank, show off the $3,500 check the Avidia Bank Charitable Foundation recently gave to the Marlborough Public Schools Music Association. The funds were used for capital improvements.

Junior Woman's Club to host 'Deal or No Deal'
      Marlborough - Known for the success of "Dancing with the Stars" Marlboroughstyle over the past few years, the Marlborough Junior Woman's Club (MJWC) is trying something new for this year's annual fund-raiser. Sticking to the theme of a spoof on popular culture, the club will present its rendition of the television game show "Deal or No Deal.

City sells banners to fund Labor Day Parade
      Marlborough - Ward 3 City Councilor Scott Schafer was on hand at the annual Heritage Festival Oct. 5 to generate interest and support for a new fund-raising campaign to off set the cost of the annual Labor Day Parade. In lieu of turning to local businesses once again for a one-time donation, Schafer said, he was looking to establish a local business partnership.

Marlborough celebrates Heritage Festival
      Marlborough - Betsy Landers and Mary Margaret Trudeau, a couple of cousins, receive cups of chowder from John Zompetti of Kennedy's Pub and Market at the Chowderfest, part of the 13th annual Marlborough Heritage Festival held Oct. 5. Kennedy's was named the winner of the People's Choice Award, and has also won Chowderfest awards in previous years.
