PHOTO/SUBMITTED Westborough - The first session of the Jewish Women's Circle included 20 women gathered to perfect the art of Challah baking just in time for the high holidays. Kosher cateress Tami Witkes presented a talk about the history of Challah and its significance, and then the women got busy - making and braiding Challah.

The Jewish Women's Circle is a newly formed group designed for contemporary woman, with the goal of uniting women of diverse backgrounds for an innovative and enriching program that includes a variety of hands-on activities and projects, discussions, workshops and fun. Each event provides an opportunity to socialize, learn and laugh.

I never make Challah, so this was a real treat," said Shiri Jackman of Southborough. "I couldn't hold back and tasted the Challah when I got home. It was delicious."

The group is coordinated by Dvora Green.

"The woman in Judaism is the foundation of both the home and the entire Jewish world," Green said. "Women can accomplish great things, especially when they join forces with other women."

The group's next event, "Illumination" will be held Saturday Nov. 22 at 7:30 p.m. Attendees will learn learn about Kislev, the month of Chanukah and the month of light. Learn to illuminate your home with interior decorator Laureen Edelson.

The cost is $10 for the event and $50 for a yearly membership.

No background or affiliation is necessary for women to participate.
