Selectmen support grant application for watershed
      Westborough - The Board of Selectmen voted at its Nov. 4 meeting to approve with conditions a request for the board to support a grant application by the Cedar Swamp Conservation Trust for funds to replace an existing public culvert within the Jackstraw Brook Watershed.

More than $14,000 raised to support grants to schools
      Westborough - They successfully answered the question "If a musician mentions his plectrum, to what is he referring?" when the second-place team couldn't. "Pick" was the answer and the Westborough Education Foundation (WEF) awarded the big trophy to a team of Gibbons Middle School teachers at its 2009 Trivia Bee and Raffl e Nov. 10.

Westborough Grange gives to local Food Pantry
      Westborough - The Westborough Food Pantry will put a $1,000 donation from the Westborough Grange to good use, officials said. "It means we're going to be able to buy a lot of things, and our numbers are growing," said Ginny Lindsay, who is pantry co-president with her husband, Harry Lindsay.

Players' Club presents 'Anne of Green Gables'
      Westborough - The Westborough Players' Club is launching its 72nd season in community theater with its children's theater production of "Anne of Green Gables, the Musical." Featuring the talents of 33 children from Metrowest and central Massachusetts, the production will be on stage at the Gibbons Middle School, Fisher St., Westborough, Friday Nov. 21 at 7:30 p.m.

Lighting initiative will cut costs at schools
      Westborough - In light of the recent announcement that energy costs for Westborough's public schools will increase 95 percent - from 0.058 per kilowatt hour for electricity to 0.126 per kilowatt hour - beginning next month, the school administration and School Committee are considering any and all energy-saving measures.
