Olympic scarecrow display takes first place
      Shrewsbury - The winning scarecrow in this year's "Scarecrows on the Common" competition, held throughout October in conjunction with the annual Spirit of Shrewsbury Fall Festival was a tribute to the 2008 Olympic Games. It was designed and built by Shrewsbury Brownie Troop 423, led by Susan Lucier and Sarah Fredereck.

'Sing Out' annual event to present 'Rockin' in the '70s'
      Shrewsbury - The Shrewsbury Middle School Parent Teacher Organization is sponsoring "Sing Out 2008," presenting "Rocking' in the '70s" as the fall musical, featuring students from Sherwood Middle School. Performances will be Friday Dec. 5 at 7 p.m., Saturday Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. and Sunday Dec. 7 at 1 p.m. in the Oak Middle School Auditorium.

Toy collection continues through Dec. 13
      Shrewsbury - A holiday toy collection is currently underway to benefit needy families served by Shrewsbury Youth and Family Services and the Department of Social Services. Donations of new non-violent toys can be dropped off at the following Shrewsbury locations through Saturday Dec. 13: Gymnastics Learning Center, 574 Lake St.

Library to have Sunday hours through March
      Shrewsbury - With donations received to date, sponsors have assured that the Shrewsbury Public Library will be open Sunday afternoons from 1 to 5 p.m. through mid-March 2009.

'Holiday House Tour' tickets still available
      Shrewsbury - The Shrewsbury Garden Club has extended the deadline for obtaining tickets for its Holiday House Tour. Tickets will be available until Monday Dec. 1.
