By Ken Powers Community Reporter

Shrewsbury - Shrewsbury High School (SHS) senior Paul Tizzano almost singlehandedly led the Colonial football team into the Division 1 playoffs, rushing for 235 yards on 27 carries and scoring all 16 of SHS's points in a 16-13 Thanksgiving Day win over host Milford.

SHS (8-3) played Fitchburg (7-4) in a Division 1 playoff semifinal Dec. 2 at Oakmont Regional in Ashburnham, the winner going on to the Central/ Western Mass. Division 1 Super Bowl Saturday Dec. 6 against the winner of the Longmeadow-Holyoke Division 1 playoff semifinal.

Tizzano's second touchdown of the day, a one-yard burst with 41 seconds to play, put SHS ahead for good.

"Our best chance to win was running the ball," SHS coach Terry Walles said. "And our best running back is Paul Tizzano. I had every confidence on that last drive that he'd do whatever we needed him to do to help us win the game."

Tizzano also scored on a 75- yard jaunt, kicked a 21-yard field goal and tacked on an extra point.

St. John's rolls over SPM

Dan Light scored on runs of six and 25 yards and Rob Blanchflower caught a 10-yard scoring strike from quarterback Zac Kofos as the Pioneers earned a 28-6 Thanksgiving Day win over archrival St. Peter-Marian in a game played at Fitton Field in Worcester.

Blanchflower, who recorded three tackles and a quarterback sack while playing defensive end, earned the Francis X. Corsac Award, presented to the game's Most Valuable Player, for his eff orts.

St. John's leads the head-tohead meeting of this storied rivalry, the third-longest in Central Mass., 50-27-7.

Westborough shuts down Algonquin Regional

Sam Nichols rushed for 100 yards on 18 carries and scored on a seven-yard run to lead the Rangers over the Tomahawks, 27-6, in the 56th Thanksgiving Day match-up between the schools.

Orlando's score capped an 11-play, 89-yard drive that tied the score at 6-6, midway through the second quarter. Basque put the Rangers ahead for good one play later, booting the extra point through the uprights.

The Tomahawks had taken a 6-0 lead on a five-yard TD pass from Mike Vulcano to Tommy Dumont that capped an 82- yard, eight-play drive.

Marlborough's Asum too much for Hawks
