Hudson Catholic shows commitment to science, math

Hudson - As a renewed commitment to math and science, Hudson Catholic High School has made a major capital improvement to its school building by investing in state-of-theart science and biology laboratories.

Both new classrooms include a joint prep room to store chemicals and experiment apparatus . The rooms are fitted with Smart Board technology as well as Internet connections to plug into sciencebased Web sites worldwide. The rooms will be used by MaryAnn Scheiner, a 12-year veteran department head, Robert Adape, an environmental science teacher with roots in the biotechnical industry, and many students from both Hudson Catholic and St. Michael School readying themselves for college and careers in the sciences.

Father Ronald Calhoun, the newly installed pastor at St. Michael Parish, dedicated the laboratories to St. Albert the Great, appropriately on the saint's feast day Nov. 15. A scientist himself, and patron of scientists, St. Albert's 11th-century works include treatises on logic, metaphysics, ethics and the physical sciences, as well as biblical and theological works. His interests extended to physics, astronomy, chemistry, biology, human and animal physiology, geography, geology, and botany.
