David P. Giles, 69

Weston - David P. Giles, 69, formerly of Waltham and Marlborough, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2008 at Sudbury Pines Extended Facility in Sudbury after a lengthy illness.

He leaves his children, Jacquelyn Giles, Elizabeth Manning and Mark Giles; his siblings, Andrew Giles, James Giles, John Giles and Mary Bozak; his grandchildren, Mark Gately, Nicholas Manning and David Giles; and his former wife, Joan (Walker) Giles.

Born in Waltham, the son of Patrick and Josephine (Murphy) Giles, he had lived in Weston for most of his life. He was a 1956 graduate of Waltham High School and a 1972 graduate of Mass Bay Community College, where he earned his degree in Fire Science. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving for five years.

Mr. Giles retired from the Weston Fire Department in 1987 as a captain after 26 years of service.

He was a member of St. Julia's Catholic Church of Weston and was a former EMT instructor at Mass Bay Community College. He enjoyed ballroom dancing and playing ice hockey on College Pond.

A funeral mass was celebrated Jan. 14 from St. Julia's Catholic Church, with burial with military honors at Linwood Cemetery in Weston. The John P. Rowe Funeral Room of Marlborough directed arrangements.
