Deborah Peeples will not seek re-election

Shrewsbury - After 12 years on the Shrewsbury School Committee, Chair Deborah Peeples has announced that she will not seek re-election in May.

Peeples made her announcement at the beginning of the Jan. 9 committee meeting, saying that although the decision was a hard one, the time has come for her to move on.

"I've loved being on the School Committee and I've had the opportunity to work with wonderful people that I respect and admire and that I've learned so much from," she said.

Peeples has three children who have been educated in Shrewsbury schools. During her time on the committee, she said, she was not able to attend many of their school and extracurricular events, but that her family was always understanding about how much her work on the committee meant to her.

"During my time on the committee I addressed each concern that people brought to me. I answered every phone call, responded to every e-mail and stopped to talk to anyone in the grocery store that wanted to talk to me," she said. "I haven't always been able to give people the answer that they wanted, but I've followed up and worked on behalf of them without a personal agenda and I'm proud of that."
