Tornadoes blow into town for February vacation Shrewsbury - If you're looking for a little professional baseball training for your elementary or middle school child, look no further. The Worcester Tornadoes will hold their second annual baseball clinic at Oak Middle School during February vacation. Players and coaches from the team will work on building skills in throwing, fielding and hitting at diff erent stations in the school gym. Parks and Recreation Director Angela Snell said space is limited, and that she's sure the program will fill up quickly. "This is a baseball town, and the kids really look forward to meeting the Tornadoes and learning some techniques from them," Snell said. Although they won't leave as professional baseball players, Snell said, the kids really do learn a lot over the week. "Kids will get what they put into it, and they'll work hard on increasing their skill level. Plus, they just get a kick out of it," she said. The kids aren't the only ones who get a kick out of it. Snell said it seems like the players have even more fun than the kids at times. "The players are really great and they work really well with the kids," she said. "They do a great job with them and they have as much fun as the kids do." The clinic will be held from Tuesday Feb. 19 to Friday Feb. 22, with first- and second graders attending from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and grades three through six attending from 12 to 2:30 p.m. "It gives the kids something to do over the February vacation and really keeps them busy," Snell said. Students should bring sneakers and baseball gloves with them, but no cleats are allowed. All participants will receive a Worcester Tornadoes hat and shirt. Registration for the program began Jan. 14 and will continue until all spaces have been filled. The cost of the program is $125 per child. To enroll your child, contact the Parks and Recreation Department. |
