Westborough track teams enjoy 1-2 finish at Mid-Wachusett B meet

Region - The Westborough High boys and girls track teams finished first and second, respectively, at the Mid- Wachusett B meet, held at Fitchburg High Jan. 26.

The Ranger boys won easily, rolling up 134 points, due in large part to placing in every event and winning seven of the 12 events.

Ryan Ruffin paced Westborough with wins in the 55-meter dash (in 6.8 seconds) and the 300-meter dash (in 37.3 seconds).

Connor Nolan won the shot put (with a heave of 44 feet, 10-1/4 inches); John Birkholz finished second (43, 6-3/4).

Matt Feresten won the high jump (with a leap of 6 feet, 3 inches), and Jeff Busch won the mile (four minutes, 36.9 seconds).

Westborough won the 1,600-yard relay in 3:54.7 and the 800-yard relay in 1:43.3. The Westborough girls scored 71.33 points, 41 fewer than champion Marlborough.

Kimmy Arvidson won the 55-meter dash (7.9) for the Rangers and teammate Caitlin Piper finished second (8.1).

Second-place finishers included Gwennie Garcia in the high jump (4-9) and Anne Blackney in the mile (5:50.3).

With the added attention on this Super Bowl with the Patriots going for history with the perfect record, gaming insiders are projecting record wagers on the game. Estimates of wager totals of several billion dollars, both legal and not, are projected.

But thankfully for most of the fans, it will come down to simply whether the Pats will have more points than the Giants. And now for one last Pigskin Forecast of the season: New England 31, New York 23. the 55-meter hurdles in 9.2 seconds and the shot put, with a heave of 35 feet, 8-3/4 inches. Both performances set school records in their respective events.

All told, Marlborough won eight of the 11 events.

Ally Oram won the twomile (11:56.8). Cathy Withers captured the mile (5:47). Brianna Kunycky won the 1,000 (3:17) and Oram finished second. Kim Urena won the 600 (1:41).

Kristen Roberts finished second on the 55 hurdles (9.3). Lauren Papalia was second in the 300 (45.5).

In addition, Marlborough won the 3,200-yard relay (10:36) and the 1,600-yard relay (4:29) as well.

girls are third The Colonials won four events en route to capturing the meet, with a total of 97 points.

Chris Cole won the shot put (43-10-3/4), Ben Tsuda won the 600 (1:28.7), Anthony Frissora won the 1,000 (2:48.6) and the 800-yard relay team was first too (1:42.1).

Second-place finishers for the Colonials were Brent Underkoffler in the two-mile (10:25), Alex Alvarez in the 55 dash (7.0), Jeff rey Pineda in the 300 (39.4), Liam McAllister in the 1,000 (2:52.7) and the 1,600-yard relay team (3:47.1).

The Shrewsbury girls team, which rolled up 64 points, was led by first-place finishes by Ashlyn Derosier in the 55-yard hurdles (9.2) and Nicole Laramee in the mile (5:50.1).

Alma Dwumfour finished second in the 55 (7.9) and sixth in the 300 (46.3). Derosier also finished fourth in the shot put (29-8-1/4) and the high jump (4-7).

Kaylee Vincent won the shot put (32-5) and Tiff any Daley the high jump (4-11) to pace the Tomahawks, who scored 87 points.

Second-place finishes were turned in by Faith Clayton in the two-mile (12:59.5), the 1,600-yard relay team (4:29.2) and the 3,200-yard relay team (11:21.4).

Vicki Reiszner was third in the shot put (30-6), Sarah Lawrence was third in the two-mile (13:06.3), Liz Crowley was third in the mile (5:54.8) and Daley was third in the 300 (44.9) and fourth in the 55 (8.0). Colleen Caty was fourth in the 300 (45.2).
