Library hosts tax help sessions Shrewsbury - People who are having difficulty preparing their income taxes can contact the Shrewsbury Public Library to sign up for work sessions with a tax professional who can walk them through the process. The American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) will provide eight tax sessions at the library from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. every Saturday through the end of March. Library Director Ellen Dolan said the library has hosted the AARP Tax Assistance Workshops for several years, and that she's happy to provide space for a program that is such a benefit to the town's residents. "The program is really helpful to assist people with the very complicated process of filing their taxes, and it's a great use of library facilities," she said. The tax workshops are held by appointment only, and Dolan is encouraging people who are interested to call as soon as possible as spaces are filling up quickly. Although presented by AARP, the workshops are open to all age groups. If there are no more openings in the library workshops, Dolan said, there are other areas in town that have hosted the AARP program in the past that she may be able to refer people to, including sessions at the Senior Center. In addition to opening their doors to the AARP program, the library also provides tax forms to file by mail and has the capability of helping people e-file their taxes online. |
