Harris to seek third term on School Committee
By Ken Powers Community Reporter

Westborough - After much deliberation, Craig Harris decided the issues facing the schools in town were too much of a concern for him not to run for re-election to the School Committee.

Harris, whose term is up in May, officially announced at the Feb. 6 School Committee meeting that he will seek reelection. Should he be elected, it will be Harris's third consecutive term on the committee.

"I have to be honest: I was hemming and hawing over it," Harris said. "My kids have all graduated and two are now in college, so in a sense it would be easy to walk away. But I'm concerned by how unsettled the future is for the town, and what effect that uncertain future is going to have on the school and, ultimately, the kids."

Harris, a Nash Street resident who works as a regional consultant for MassMutual, is concerned by the uncertainty surrounding state funding.

"I don't think those issues are even close to being settled yet," Harris said. "I'm fearful some of the issues haven't even hit our town yet and that the financial climate may get worse before it gets better."

Westborough School Committee Chair Rod Jane's term is also up in May. Jane congratulated Harris on his decision to seek re-election, but said he is still deciding whether or not he will run to reclaim his seat on the committee.
