Gifts benefit Marlborough schools Marlborough - The School Committee unanimously accepted several gifts and grants at its Feb. 12 meeting, according to Assistant Superintendent James Jolicoeur. The grants varied in size, from more than $8,000 to $50. The Massachusetts Elementary School Principals Association (MESPA) Education Foundation gave $8,400, which will pay teachers stipends as they work to align the health and wellness curriculum. "That is part of an overall health and wellness grant program that the Marlborough Public School has been involved in with MESPA and Metrowest Health Association," Jolicoeur said. "That money is primarily to continue our work with the integration of health and wellness and physical education." The Marlborough High School (MHS) music program will benefit from a $1,000 donation from IBM. Jonathan D. Rosenthal, music coordinator for the district, noted in information presented to the committee that the money will be used to build instrument storage cabinets. Ohiopyle Prints has donated $106 to the district. The money accounts for a percentage of the company's sales in local stores, according to the information presented by MHS Principal and Acting Superintendent Mary Carlson. The money will be used "to promote school spirit" at MHS. Olympia Sports donated $82.85 to the district as the first in a program to donate 5 percent of their sales to MHS, also to be used to promote school spirit. Neil and Bonnie Schutzman donated $50 to the MHS Library Media Center, this year's annual gift from the couple, according to information Carlson provided to the committee. |
