Lions Club announces Peace Poster Contest winner

PHOTO/SUBMITTED Marlborough student Madeline Alvarez receives the first-place Peace Poster award from Lion Richard Towle, as Lion President Marlene King looks on.
Marlborough - A poster created by Madeline Alvarez of Marlborough has been awarded first-place honors in the Lions Club International Peace Poster Contest by members of the Marlboro Lions Club.

"Ms. Alvarez, a seventhgrade student at the Marlborough Middle School (MMS), was awarded a $100 savings bond," said Lion Richard Towle, who was the contest chair. "Her poster will be representing the Marlboro Lions Club at the district level, with a group of nearly 50 Lions Clubs in eastern Massachusetts, and, if successful, she will be competing at the state and international levels in the months ahead."

MMS seventh-grader Emily Whapham, 12, was awarded second-place honors. Her award was a $50 savings bond.

Anyone who would like to enjoy dinner with the Lions Club can contact John Usinas at 508-4854149. Meetings are at 7 p.m. on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month.
