Registration set to begin for spring activities
Parks and Recreation Dept. off ers indoor and outdoor activities for Shrewsbury residents
By Melissa Muntz Community Reporter

Shrewsbury - Registration for spring Parks and Recreation Department activities and events begins Saturday March 15.

Carrying over from the winter catalog are senior fitness and nutrition, bowling, painting, adult Jazzercise classes, and beginner and intermediate yoga classes, but the program also includes many outdoor activities to enjoy as the weather improves.

Adult Golf Lessons are available to golfers of all abilities, who will work with instructors individually and within the group over five classes. The lessons will be held at Juniper Hill Country Club in Northborough.

People who are new to tennis can sign up for Adult Tennis Lessons. Beginner and intermediate players are welcome to join the class, which will be held over five sessions at Dean Park. Players are responsible for providing their own rackets.

Men's and Co-Ed Softball teams can also begin registering for league play. Each team must be made up of 70 percent Shrewsbury residents, and all players must be 18 or older. People can register as complete teams or can register as individuals who will be put on the free agent list, but early registration is encouraged because a limited number of teams will be allowed to play.

Golf and tennis lessons are available at the teen and youth level as well, along with karate, tae kwon do, floor hockey, cheerleading and babysitting.

New for this spring is a course in Hip-Hop Dance, which works on aerobic fitness.

Basic fishing is a free, four-session course that will teach kids about the fundamentals of fishing, including different techniques, lures and bait.

"Art for the Ages" introduces kids to a wide range of art techniques, cultures and movements, as well as brief lessons about renowned artists.

Creative Clay Building gives kids the opportunity build their own clay sculptures, which they will then paint and fire in the kiln with the help of Claytime employees.

A structured gymnastics course for 4- and 5-yearolds will introduce basic gymnastic techniques to preschoolers on age-appropriate equipment.

In addition to its catalog of scheduled courses, the Parks and Recreation Department is also holding registration for a variety of special events planned for the spring, including a Flashlight EGGtravaganza Tuesday March 18, a trip to Boston Saturday April 26 and Kids' Equipment Day Saturday May 17.

Anyone who would like to register for any of the spring recreation opportunities can contact the Parks and Recreation Department for more information, pricing and program availability.
