Local sports roundup Hudson - Hudson Catholic High School senior Justice Severin saw his memorable Green Wave career capped by being named the team's Most Valuable Player at the school's Winter Sports Awards Banquet March 2. Included in Severin's career highlights was eclipsing the 1,000-point mark this season. Severin finished with 1,027 career points. Green Wave coach Wayne Barry also named Charlie Tocci the team's Unsung Hero Award. Hudson Catholic finished the season 7-13 overall, 3-11 in the Colonial Athletic League. Severin and teammate Bran- don Shea were named Colonial Athletic League All-Stars. Jim Peters, the Green Wave girls basketball coach, named Erin Drummey team MVP and Lauren Pollard the Unsung Hero. Dummey and Shauna Geagen were named Colonial Athletic League All-Stars from Hudson Catholic, which finished 6-14 overall and 3-11 in league play. Hockey coach Tom Temple named Sean McDonough team MVP and Ryan Campbell the Unsung Hero. Both players were also named Russell Conference All-Stars. The Green Wave, in its first year operating as a co-operative team with Keefe Tech, finished 0-16 overall and 0-10 in the Russell Conference. Aztecs girls basketball team enjoys historic season The Assabet Valley Regional girls basketball team went 1-1 in the Central Mass. Division 3 tournament, and finished its finest season in school history with a 19-5 overall record. Along the way the team earned co-champion honors in the Colonial Athletic League and advanced to the Small School final of the State Vocational Tournament. "It was a great season for the team," Assabet coach Frank Ferreer said. "The girls worked very hard and really earned everything they achieved. I'm really excited about the direction of our program. I really feel we're on track and should be a team that has a chance to win the league and advance to the tournament every season." The Aztecs advanced to the second round of the Division 3 tournament with a thrilling 50-49 win over Maynard, the No. 11 seed, before losing to third-seeded Hopedale. Samantha Ware and Samantha Kerrigan led Assabet Valley off ensively this season, averaging 14 and 12 points per game, respectively. Marlborough High gymnasts enjoy best season ever The Panthers, in their first appearance in the South Sectionals, finished 10th, scoring 130.625 points. Marlborough's eff ort was led by Jill Anzalone, who was sixth in the South Sectionals in the vault, with a 9.2 score. "Vaulting was our strong point this year,"' Marlborough coach Tommy Thomson said. "And Jill was the strong point of our vaulters. She had a great year, which was capped off a really strong performance in sectionals. "I think we're right where we should be," Thomson continued. "We're making progress every year, getting better. It's all a testament to the girls. They worked so hard. I can't wait for next season to begin.
