Scholar-in-residence to speak at Westborough synagogue

Westborough - Dr. Joel Hoffman, Congregation B'nai Shalom's scholar-inresidence, will speak at the congregation's Sabbath service Friday March 14. Services will begin at 7:30 p.m. He will continue his talk at the congregation's Torah Study Saturday March 15 at 8:30 a.m.

Hoffman's talk will be about the history of the Jewish people, as seen through the lens of the language that is used by the Jewish people. .

Hof fman lectures throughout the world on popular and scholarly topics spanning history, Hebrew prayer and Jewish continuity. He has served on the faculties of Brandeis University, the Academy for Jewish Religion, and, currently, Hebrew Union College in New York City.

Chief translator for the multi-volume series "My People's Prayer Book," Hoffman is the author of "In the Beginning: A Short History of the Hebrew Language."

Hoffman, a resident of Mount Kisco, N.Y., also serves as resident scholar at Temple Shaaray Tefila in Bedford, N.Y.
