Marion L. Smith, 68
Northborough - Marion "Penny" L. (Peloquin) Smith, 68, died Thursday, March 6, 2008 at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester following a lengthy illness. She was predeceased by her husband of 38 years, George Smith Jr., who died in December 2007.

She leaves her sisters, Marie Purtle and Anne Hardaker and her husband, David, and her brothers, Robert Peloquin and Paul Peloquin Sr. and his wife, Patricia. She also leaves many loving nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews; a special godchild, Brenda (Peloquin) McCann and family; and many friends.

Born and raised in Worcester, the daughter of Ovila and Isabelle (Wood) Peloquin, she had lived in Northborough for many years. She graduated in 1958 from the former St. Peter's Central Catholic High School in Worcester.

She was in the Sisters of Mercy Convent for three years in Gilbertville and Millbury, taking the name Sister Mary Vincent. Upon leaving the convent due to illness, she went to Anna Maria College in Paxton, graduating with a B.S. in Education. She was an elementary school teacher at the Packachoag Elementary School in Auburn for many years before retiring. Prior to that, she taught at St. Peter's Grammar School in Worcester.

Mrs. Smith was an active member of Saint Rose of Lima Church in Northborough. She was loved by all who knew her, and will be remembered for her energy and love of life. She enjoyed working in her yard, going to yard sales, and loved spending time in Maine at the ocean in Wells Beach and Bar Harbor.

A funeral mass was held March 10 from Saint Rose of Lima Parish, with burial at Howard Street Cemetery. Hays Funeral Home of Northborough directed arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to St. Rose of Lima Church, P.O. Box 685, Northborough, MA 01532
