Shrewsbury - The members of the St. John's High boys basketball team smile for photographers after the Pioneers' 62-56 win over Marlborough High in the Central Mass. Division 1 Tournament final March 7 at WPI's Harrington Auditorium. With the victory, which earned St. John's its 15th Central Mass. title in the 47-year history of the tournament, the fifth-seeded Pioneers (20-6) advanced to a state semifinal against Longmeadow, played March 11 at UMass's Mullins Center.

Freshman Richard Rogers led the St. John's scoring parade, with 14 points, while sophomore David White added 12 and senior John Perron chipped in with 10. Marlborough, which entered the tournament as the No. 2 seed and finished 19-4, was led by senior George Jordan, who poured in a game-high 18 points, and Keith Brown, who added 17.
