Shrewsbury looking for new fire chief

Shrewsbury - Town Manager Daniel Morgado has begun the search for a new fire chief to replace outgoing Chief Gerald LaFlamme, who will retire at the end of May.

Letters of interest are currently being accepted from applicants both within the Fire Department as well as from outside.

The job requires all applicants to have a bachelor's degree in fire science, business or public administration. The fire chief's position is not a civil service position, meaning that all ap- plicants will be considered and the final decision will be made by Morgado.

The new chief will be expected to not only supervise fire services in town, but also manage public education, fire prevention, and all other aspects of the department on a local and regional basis.

Morgado said he is seeking candidates who are leaders with strong financial, organizational, presentation and conflict management skills.

All letters of interest must be submitted to the Town Manager's Office by Friday April 11, as the plan is to hire a new chief by the end of April.
