Seniors prepare for the 'Oscars'
By Angela Greiner Community Reporter

Hudson - It's just over a week until Hudson seniors stroll down the red carpet for the second annual "Hollywood Oscar" dinner. This year's event, which does not have a dress code, will be held at the Portuguese Club in Hudson Thursday March 27 from 6 to 10 p.m. with a dinner buff et and an evening of dancing and fun.

The dancing will be kicked off by a group of 30 "Senior Line Dancers," led by the Senior Center's Social Service Advocate René Greneir. Director Janice Long said that the dancers are part of a regular dancing group that meets weekly.

"They are always so nice to watch," Long said.

The event will also feature an award ceremony during which Oscars will be bestowed on seniors in a variety of categories including "the most buoyant member of the water aerobics class."

Tickets sales for the event have been consistent, Long said, with many seniors excited about the upcoming event.

"It has been a long hard winter for a lot of the seniors," Long said. "Let's kick spring off with a bit of a fancy night."

Last year's event drew in more than 200 seniors from throughout the Metrowest area. Long said she hopes that the seniors from the surrounding communities will once again feel welcome and come to the dinner dance.

"Anyone 50 and over is welcome," she said. "The more, the merrier … When people come from other towns, it is a nice opportunity to make new friends."

Tickets, which are available at the Senior Center, are $18 per person, which includes dinner and a full evening of entertainment led by the by disc jockey Al Barese, who will play movie and show tunes and ask trivia questions.
