Sully's First Edition Pub
A few regulars sat at the bar watching sports on one of the four televisions in the room. We settled into our seats as our waitress handed us the menu and the specials of the night. We ordered a round of Guinness ($5 each) and put in an order for a plate of nachos ($6.99). The specials included a 12 oz. Cajun sirloin with mushrooms and onions ($13.95), liver bacon and onions ($8.95) and garlic roasted pork chops ($11.95). Sully's specialties were listed on the regular menu. My boyfriend briefly considered the BBQ and Ribs and Chicken combo ($11.95) before settling on the Mixed Grill ($15.95). Much to his delight, the mixed grill included pork, chicken and steak tips. He selected teriyaki sauce for his steak tips and ordered them medium rare. My friend ordered fish and chips ($9.95) and chose spicy fries to go with it. Her husband picked a burger from the list of different varieties, which were all 8 oz. sirloin burgers ($5.30 to $6.85). He opted for curly fries to accompany his meal. After reviewing the Deli Counter section of the menu, which boasted great comfort-food options like a grilled Reuben ($6.95), a BLT ($4.95), chicken or veal parmesan sandwiches ($6.95) and hot dogs ($2.95), I jumped to the fish section and ordered baked stuff ed shrimp ($15.95). Instead of either variety of fries, I went for the onion rings. As we chatted and cast an occasional glance at the TV to check the score, our nachos arrived, hot and with lots of melted cheese, along with jalapenos, olives and onions. As soon as we finished picking at them, our waitress removed the platter and replaced it with the salads that came with our meal. When our dinners were set before us, we chowed down, and talked about the great sports memorabilia decorating the walls of Sully's. My friend couldn't finish the fish that came with her meal because she quickly became addicted to the spicy fries. She noted that it was nice to have malt vinegar on the table beside the ketchup, steak sauce, salt and pepper. Her husband said his burger was cooked to order. And huge, I thought. My onion rings were crispy and as addictive as the fries. I ate every one. The stuff ed shrimp were big and deliciously fresh, and the stuffing was well-seasoned. (I also managed to eat a few of the steamed carrots that came as a side.) My boyfriend consumed his mixed grill so fast that I didn't even see the chicken. He said the steak tips were cooked to perfection. We finished our casual meal with a slice of strawberry shortcake ($2.95) and considered making the double-date to Sully's a monthly event. Sully's is located at 11B Florence St. in Marlborough. The phone number is 508-485-6754. |
