Roger N. Fortin, 90

Hudson - Roger N. Fortin, 90, formerly of Brunswick, Maine, died Sunday, March 30, 2008 at UMass Memorial Healthcare in Worcester.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Frederica (Hammond) Fortin; his daughters, Christine Yadlon and Lisa Andrellos; his sons, Denis Fortin, Joseph Fortin, Mark Fortin, Matthew Fortin and Roger Fortin; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and his brother, Paul Fortin.

Born Feb. 21, 1918 in Brunswick, Maine, he was son of Joseph and Marie Anna (Cloutier) Fortin. He graduated from Brunswick High School in 1937 and was a gifted football and baseball player. While working as a meat cutter, he was off ered a job at Verney Mills to play semi-pro baseball for Cabot Mfg. He served his country faithfully in the U.S. Army, from 1941 to 1945, in Africa, France, Italy, Germany and England. He married Frederica Hammond on June 10, 1946 in Framingham.

Mr. Fortin worked as a bus driver for the B&W bus lines and later as a tour guide for Grey Line Tours out of Boston. Early on, he worked as a mail carrier in Brunswick and then for Hodgeman Rubber of Framingham, as well as delivering oil for Knight Fuel of Hudson. He was also a parttime caretaker for a cemetery in Framingham.

A mass of Christian burial was celebrated April 3 from St. Michael's Church of Hudson, with burial at St. Michael's Cemetery. The Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home of Hudson directed arrangements.
