Marlborough - Marlborough High shortstop Wes Russell waits for a pickoff throw from the pitcher as Algonquin Regional's Kyle McGinnity dives safely back to second base during the Tomahawks' 10-0 win over the Panthers April 7 in Northborough in the season-opening game for both teams. McGinnity, a freshman, had quite a debut for Algonquin, doubling, walking twice and scoring two runs. Russell, a junior, had the Panthers' only hits in the game, a pair of singles. Pitcher John McKenna paced the Tomahawks, allowing just the two hits to Russell, while striking out four over five innings. The junior threw just 71 pitches, 40 for strikes, and retired 15 of the 19 batters he faced.
