Anthony N. Tomasiello Sr., 87

Shrewsbury - Honorable Anthony N. Tomasiello Sr., 87, died peacefully Monday, April 21, 2008 in St. Vincent Hospital.

He is survived by his loving family, including his wife, Mary (Bodinizzo) Tomasiello; his son, attorney Anthony Tomasiello Jr. and his wife, Janet Amorello; his grandson, Samuel Tomasiello; and his sisters, Josephine Arell and Mary Delaney. He also leaves his niece, Sandra Paradis; his brothers-in-law, Joseph and Michael Bodinizzo; his sistersin law, Frances Walkowiak, Theresa Paretti and Annette Pellegrino, all who assisted him so dearly in his years of declining health; and nephews and nieces.

Judge Tomasiello was born in Worcester, the son of Donato and Lena (Russo) Tomasiello, and lived in Shrewsbury for most of his life. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was a graduate of Commerce High School and the College of the Holy Cross, class of 1943.

He received his law degree from Suff olk University and started his law practice in 1951 upon passing his Bar Exam. He became the Assistant Clerk of the Worcester Superior Court in 1969 and served in that position until 1978. He then served four years as the Clerk Magistrate in the Milford District Court until 1982. From 1982, he served as the Justice for the Nantucket District Court and was appointed as the presiding justice in 1986, retiring in 1991.

Among Judge Tomasiello's many memberships, he was a life member of Our Lady Of Mt. Carmel-St. Ann Church, the 1st Friday Club, the East Side Post #201, the Worcester Lodge #168 Sons Of Italy in America Cristoforo Columbo, the Knights Of Columbus, a past President of the Unico Club, and the Secretary for the Holy Cross Purple Knights for his Class of "43." He was also a member of the Indian Meadows, Pleasant Valley and Wachusett country clubs, where he enjoyed playing golf. He was a recipient of the St. Thomas Moore Award and the Sons Of Italy Achievement Award.

He and his wife enjoyed many winters in Florida with their friends, and were longtime patrons of the San Vitaliano Society.

Funeral services were held April 26 from the Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel in Worcester, with burial at St. John's Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel- St. Ann Church, 24 Mulberry St., Worcester, MA 01605.
