Fire Department open house planned
By Melissa Muntz Community Reporter
Shrewsbury - Shrewsbury residents will get to take a look around at the new Fire Station Headquarters during an open house Sunday May 18.

Firefighters will be on hand to show people around the new facility, and Smokey the Bear and Sparky the Firedog will be on hand to greet visitors and take photos with the kids.

The SAFE Trailer will also be on hand to host educational sessions for children on fire safety in the home.

The open house will be held at the headquarters building in the center of town at 11 Church Road from 1 to 4 p.m.

Aside from tours of the new building, the open house will also include a dedication ceremony at the site, which will be held at 2 p.m.

The new Fire Headquarters building was constructed, in addition to a new station at CenTech Boulevard and renovations to the Harrington Avenue station, as part of a $7.5 million construction project approved by Town Meeting in 2006.

The project was completed at the end of last year at roughly 10 percent under budget.
