Jané wins election to Board of Selectmen Westborough - Rod Jané, who seemingly knocked on every door in town and had an impressive showing at Candidates Night, was elected to the Board of Selectmen in the annual Town Election, held May 6. Jané defeated Denzil "Denny" Drewry, 1,366-901, to fill the vacancy on the board created when Sue Abladian announced she would not be running for re-election. Jané comes to the Board of Selectmen from the School Committee, where he served for six years, the last three as chair. Drewry is a former selectman, having served four terms, from 1989 to 1995 and 2000 to 2006. He lost his bid for re-election bid in 2006, and then lost another bid for last year. Also winning their respective elections May 6 were: Craig Harris and Ilyse Levine- Kanji, for School Committee. Harris was running as an incumbent, Levine-Kanji for the vacancy created when Jané opted to run for selectman. Nancy Yendriga, for town clerk. Joe Harrington, for moderator. Joanne Mallozzi, for Planning Board. Paul George, for Assabet Valley Regional School Committee. Patricia Fontes, Lisa Freeman and Dorothy Mello, for Library Board of Trustees. Julie Pappazsis, for Housing Authority. Other than the race for selectman, all of the other elections were essentially unopposed, each board or committee needing the exact number of members as individuals running. Harris, Yendriga, Harrington, Mallozzi, George, Fontes, Freeman and Pappazsis are all incumbents. The focus of Jané's campaign was his assessment that Westborough, under the guidance of the Board of Selectmen, needs to find ways to provide excellent core services to residents while keeping taxes under control. |
