Evans named superintendent in Medway Although she's excited about her new post, Evans said it will be very hard to leave the district she's come to love over the past six years. "We have such a wonderful team of dedicated teachers and administrators who do the very best they can for kids every day," Evans said. "It's not often that you get to work with such a hard-working group of people, and the positive culture will be hard to leave." Evans has been involved in all major decisions that the district has made during her time in Shrewsbury, but she said the thing she is most proud of is her work creating standards-based report cards for students in kindergarten through grade eight. "I think it's really important to be clear with students about what they should be learning and be able to do and the standards-based report cards help communicate student progress to the student and the parent as well," she said. Evans earned both a bachelor's degree in English and economics and a master's degree in English education from Tufts University in the 1980s, her Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies in administration/supervision from the University of New Hampshire in 1996 and her doctorate in education administration from Boston College in 2007. Prior to her work as assistant superintendent, Evans worked as an English and computer teacher at Alvine High School in New Hampshire, where she was named Teacher of the Year in 2003; assistant principal and humanities director at Goffstown High School in New Hampshire; and principal of Lynnfield High School. Evans said she's excited about the new challenge, and is confident she will transition into the new role smoothly because of her ability to learn new things quickly and the experience and knowledge she's received in Shrewsbury working with Superintendent Dr. Anthony Bent. |
