National champions
Region - Defenseman Francesca Panarelli of Shrewsbury (center, holding banner, flashing the "We're No. 1" sign), forward Julie Wardwell of Marlborough (center, to the right of the banner, holding baseball hat) and defenseman Mary Parker of Westborough (holding championship plate) were members of the Assabet Valley Under-14 girls hockey team that represented Massachusetts and captured the National Championship last month in West Chester, Penn. Assabet Valley was a perfect 6-0 in the tournament, defeating Michigan's Little Caesars, 4-3, in four overtimes in the National Championship Game. All three players - Panarelli, Wardwell and Parker - have been selected to participate in USA Hockey's National Development Camp, which will be held July 26 through Aug. 1 in Rochester, N.Y.
