OAR thanks volunteers Thanks to beautiful weather and strong commu - nity support, OAR's 22nd Annual Assabet River Cleanup was an outstanding success! High water from Tropical Storm Hannah limited in-river activity, but over 130 volunteers still managed to haul tires, bicycles, paint cans, TVs, toilets, and "even the kitchen sink!" from the banks of the Assabet, its tributaries, and the Concord River. Cleaning the river is hard, dirty work and we are truly grateful for all the volunteers who came out to help. We would like to thank Intel, Green Marlborough, Hudson Boy Scout Troop 77 and Marlborough Boy Scout Troop 2 for sending teams of volunteers. In addition to the volunteers who did the hard, dirty work, a large number of local businesses and town departments provided funds, materials and physical support to make the cleanup possible. We are also grateful to the local restaurants that gave us delicious food to provide a lunch for the workers. Digital Federal Credit Union was the presenting sponsor and major support came from AstraZeneca, Carlisle & Company, and Intel Massachusetts. We wish to thank the following sponsors in the Marlborough, Hudson and Stow area: Acton Survey & Engineering, Avidia Savings Bank, Bose Corporation, ET&L Corp., H.H. Warren Insurance Agency, Hannaford Supermarkets, Hudson Mill LLC, Quilting Arts Magazine, R.S. Lamson, Robinsons Ace Hardware, and Rohm and Haas for financial support. We also wish to thank Classic Pizza, T.C. Lando's Pizzeria, Hudson House of Pizza, Brother's Pizza, Shaw's of Stow, Honey Dew Donuts in Hudson, Stop & Shop of Hudson, Hudson Light and Power, Hudson Appliance, Hudson Department of Public Works, B-P Trucking, Marlborough Department of Public Works, Stow Highway Department, Wal-Mart, Wood Square Design, and Nashoba Blue.
While there remains a lot of trash to be pulled out of the river, we are pleased to find each year that the river is cleaner. We are grateful not only that we have volunteers and business supporters to help clean up the river but that many of our residents along the river are helping to protect and keep it clean throughout the year. |
