Spreading holiday cheer with music
      Marlborough - Kindergartners hold candles as they sing "This Little Light of Mine" in the Richer Elementary School "Holiday Concert," presented Dec. 16 at the school. Second-graders also performed several yuletide songs, including "Celebrate with Joy," "In This House Tonight," "We Wish You a Merry Christmas" and "Holiday Rock.

      Shrewsbury - Fourth-graders in Neil Riley and Barbara Connolly's class at Walter J. Paton Elementary School participate in "A Big Chill" winter concert. The audience at the Dec. 16 event included parents and friends of the Paton community.

Economic woes could cost School Department 25 positions
      Westborough - If the recession the country, state and town is currently suff ering through forces the town to approve only a level-funded budget for the School Department for fiscal year (FY) 2010, as many as 25 positions may have to be eliminated, Superintendent of Schools Anne Towle told the Westborough School Committee at its Dec. 17 meeting.

SYFS to honor Christopher Mehne
      Shrewsbury - Shrewsbury Youth and Family Services (SYFS) is pleased to announce that Christopher Mehne will receive the 2009 Harry S. Cutting Award. The award, which will be presented at the Annual Gala Saturday Feb. 28, honors those who embody the spirit of giving, community service and support for the Shrewsbury community.

Students perform for seniors
      Northborough/Southborough - Helen Yang plays a Chinese folk song on the flute for the residents of Whitney Place. She was one of several members of the Algonquin Regional High School Tri-M Music Honor Society to perform during the group's holiday season visit, along with Dennis Wren, chair of the school's Fine Arts Department.
