Committee struggles with possibility of layoffs of teachers, staff

      Westborough - The School Committee, at its March 11 meeting, began the sobering process of calculating just how many layoffs may be needed and where they could come from. The School Committee is working with a proposed fiscal year (FY) 2010 budget of $38,259,898, which is 1.34 percent higher than the current budget.

      Shrewsbury - By unanimous vote, the Shrewsbury School Committee has chosen current Assistant Superintendent Dr. Joseph Sawyer to take over as superintendent of schools when Dr. Anthony Bent retires at the end of this school year.

Shrewsbury Historical Society accepting scholarship applications
      Shrewsbury - The Shrewsbury Historical Society has announced that scholarship applications are now being accepted. Applications for the society's two scholarships are available at the Shrewsbury High School Guidance Office and online at the SHS website. They are due no later than Tuesday March 31.
