Teen Summer Reading Program includes raffles, games

Hudson - Teens who participate in the Hudson Public Library Teen Summer Reading Program will have the opportunity to earn raffle tickets for great prizes, to play a daily game and to attend an end-of-summer party.

For every book teens read, they receive two raffle tickets. Prizes include a silver iPod Nano, a pass for four people to Trombetta's Farm mini golf, a gift certificate for four for weekday golf at Twin Springs Golf Course, two tickets to Six Flags New England, a $50 gift certificate to EB Games, an autographed photo of Justin Masterson from the Boston Red Sox, and more.

Teens can also play the daily game once a day, answering questions and getting candy and a puzzle piece that goes in a poster-sized puzzle, which is a page out of a vampire-themed graphic novel. On the completed board there is a coded message that the teens can decipher to earn three additional raffle tickets.

Raffle winners will be selected at the end-of-summer reading party Friday Aug. 21. That event also includes two door prizes: a life-sized cutout of Edward Cullen (from "Twilight") and a $25 gift certificate to Regal Cinema.

Visit by comic book artist

A special program just for teens aged 13 to 17 will be at the library Monday July 6 from 2 to 4 p.m. with local comic book artist Paul Ryan. Ryan has worked for Marvel and DC Comics on such titles as "Fantastic Four," "The Avengers," "Superman" and "Batman: No Man's Land."

He will teach the teens how a comic is produced and what makes good story structure, and then show the basics of drawing, perspective and visual storytelling. Sign up is required for this workshop. Call or visit the library to sign up.
