Grunbaum receives Eagle Scout

Michael Grunbaum received the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank awarded by the Boy Scouts of America Michael Grunbaum received the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank awarded by the Boy Scouts of America Marlborough – With family and friends looking on, city resident Michael Grunbaum received the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank awarded by the Boy Scouts of America, in an Eagle Court Honor Ceremony held recently at the Moose Lodge Family Center.

Michael, a member of Troop 2, completed a detailed service project, a requirement to even be considered for the rank of Eagle Scout, which involved leading a team of scouts in assisting the Marlborough Conservation Commission with the city’s storm drain pollution prevention program.

The project involved the labeling of storm water street drains with curbsides markers, which would help residents understand that water entering the basins flows into local waterways.

The message the Marlborough Conservation Commission – and Michael – were relaying to residents is that polluted runoff from streets, driveways, and yards could eventually end up in area streams, ponds, and lakes.

The project also included a community awareness program to inform city residents of the importance of the storm water pollution problem.

In addition to family and friends, current and former scout leaders, fellow scouts, and even Michael’s first grade teacher, Elaine DiGiacomantonio, attended the ceremony.

In addition, Marlborough Mayor Nancy Stevens issued a proclamation recognizing Michael’s achievement, and congratulatory letters were also received from State Senator James Eldridge and Governor Deval Patrick.

Michael is a 2009 graduate of Hudson Catholic High School and is currently attending Fitchburg State College majoring in psychology. He continues to serve the community as a volunteer with the Fitchburg State College EMS program.

Michael began his scouting adventure when he joined Marlborough’s Cub Scout Pack 42 in October 1998. In March 2002 Michael became a member of the Boy Scouts of America when he joined Troop 2.
