Dwight W. Dewhurst, 82, died at home Wednesday Jan. 27, 2010. He was the husband of Betty Ann (Kelliher) Dewhurst.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his five children, Maryellen O’Donnell, Paul D. Dewhurst, Peter J. Dewhurst, Susan M. Robertson and Beth J. Sears of Walpole, as well as 16 grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Elizabeth Hemenway and Donald Dewhurst.

Born in Stoneham, the son of the late Dwight D. and Laura May (Hinchcliffe) Dewhurst, he was educated in Stoneham schools and graduated from Boston University. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, attaining the rank of sergeant.

Mr. Dewhurst was employed as an insurance claims adjuster for AllState Insurance and then for Hanover Insurance prior to his retirement. He enjoyed reading, sports and spending time with his grandchildren.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Feb. 1 from St. Mary’s Church of North Grafton, followed by burial with military honors at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. The Rand-Harper-Pickering Westborough Funeral Home assisted with arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to the VNA Care Network and Hospice, 120 Thomas St., Worcester, MA 01608.
