Meet the Beetles

Westborough – After decades of running rampant along local highways, the familiar plant known as purple loosestrife is now under siege in Westborough. The weapon of choice is Galerucella, a voracious beetle known for its fondness for loosestrife. Recently raised and released in town by the Westborough Community Land Trust, the beetles are expected to reduce but not eliminate the loosestrife population, as has been successfully accomplished in dozens of Massachusetts towns, including Grafton.
