Region – The Highland City Striders (HCS), a local running club based in the Marlborough Hudson area, will be organizing a number of running events over the next several months. The group’s focus in conducting these running events is to benefit local charities.
HCS is now accepting entry forms for the 2nd Annual Running with the Wolves 10K, which, in addition to medals for top performers, will feature a corporate challenge and a team competition (best three-person team). The 10-mile races in September and November are held to benefit the Hudson and Marlborough food pantries. There is no formal entry form or fee for these races. Runners come the morning of the race, which starts and finishes at Ghiloni Park, and provide 10 canned goods as their “entry fee.” The running club also hosts a really fun family event race on the first Sunday in October, designed specifically to support family participation – the Marlborough Main Street Mile. This race, held in conjunction with the annual Heritage Day Fair, is a one-mile run that is downhill all the way and has a special award category for the best parent–child time. Finally, for the second year, the group, in conjunction with the Hudson Elks and the Booster Clubs from both Marlborough and Hudson high schools, will hold the School Spirit 5K Run & Walk to benefit the Hudson Elks scholarship fund. Held two days after the 107th meeting of the Hudson and Marlborough football teams, this race provides the opportunity for parents, alumni, teachers and students to show local community pride and celebrate the longstanding athletic rivalry between Hudson and Marlborough.
In addition to these events, the running club competes together in a number of local area races and meets four times a week for training runs. Twenty-one Striders participated in the Hyannis Marathon & Marathon Relays last February, and seven ran the Boston Marathon.
Finally, in the planning of these events, the Striders are always looking for race sponsors and would be proud to feature your company logo on the back of their race shirts.
