Westborough youth football team moving to AYF
The Red Devils are changing leagues and names.

Westborough – After decades playing as “The Red Devils” in the Pop Warner Youth Football League, the Westborough Youth Football organization announced changes for the upcoming season.

The group will move from Pop Warner to the American Youth Football League (AYF) of Central Massachusetts. This move will allow Westborough to play more local teams and communities with similar populations. The league aligned itself with the high school program, and the youth teams will now play many of the same surrounding towns as the Westborough High School (WHS) Rangers. Previously, the youth teams were based on player weight. The AYF is grade based, so players will participate on teams with members of their school grade and of similar age.

The league Board of Directors made these changes to promote instructional, healthy and safe competition, to align itself with the WHS football program and to build a sustainable youth football program in Westborough. The younger players will now also be “Rangers.” Recruitment and information clinics for parents and players will be announced soon and held throughout the next few months.

In preparing for this move, the league will be purchasing new equipment and uniforms for the players, made possible by fund-raising. Registration is now open. To register or for more information, visit www.westboroughyouthfootball.com.
