Marlborough – Track and field coach Jeff Downin calls Alexa Fearing an inspiration to her teammates. With an undefeated record in league play this year, her performance speaks for itself, he said.

But the Marlborough High School (MHS) junior and district champion in the shotput for the second year in a row, said her dad and twin sister, Taylor, who is also on the team, share a big part in her success. Taylor started in seventh grade and Alexa began in eighth.

“My dad was a shotputter in high school and college, so he wanted us to get involved with it,” she said.

Alexa has a personal best of 35,1 3/4 and is just a few inches away from the school record of 35, 8.

In addition, she plays volleyball for MHS and is an all-state performer on the euphonium in the high school band.

After high school, she said she's like to have a career that couples music performance and child psychology – as well as continuing to throw the shotput in college.

“If a school wants me, I's open,” she said.
