Marlborough – Geraldine B. “Gerrie” (Schaefer) Cavicchio, 78, died at home Saturday June 11, 2011, surrounded by her loving family, after a brief illness.
She was the loving mother of 11 children, Kenneth, Eileen, Jane, Steven, William, Richard, Michael, Paul, Thomas, Joseph and John; 17 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. All of her children were very proud of her and she will sorely be missed by them all.
Born in Philadelphia, the daughter of the late John and Myra (Conrad) Schaefer, she had lived in Marlborough for most of her life. She was very active in the Marlboro Tenant's Association, where she served as secretary for 10 years and president for five years. She also was active in the Meals on Wheels Program. She recently was recognized by the Mayor of Marlborough as the Volunteer of the Year Award for 2011.
Mrs. Cavicchio never shied away from the opportunity to help others who were in the need of help of any kind, and she will be missed by many.
Following cremation, a funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday June 16, at 10 a.m., in St. Matthias Church, 409 Hemenway St., Marlborough. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The John P. Rowe Funeral Home Inc. of Marlborough is directing arrangements. There are no calling hours.
