Westborough – Robert Z. Shakin, 76, formerly a resident of Vernon, Conn. for over 40 years, died Sunday June 12, 2011 at his home. He was the husband of 51 years of the late Rose (Klein) Shakin, who passed away in March 2010.
Mr. Shakin was a graduate of Queens College in New York City and a U.S. Army veteran. He was the former CFO of Stich Associates of West Hartford, Conn.
Besides loving numbers, he was very clever with his hands and could fix or build anything. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, fishing and sports, and was an avid fan of both men's and women's UConn basketball. He was also known for his sense of humor and tall tales.
He is survived by his children, Marc Shakin of Connecticut and James Shakin and wife Regina of Southborough and Chatham; his grandchildren, Kelsey, Jack and Catherine Shakin; a sister, Joanne Simon and husband Arnie of New York; a sister-in-law, Frieda Marcus and husband Jon of Connecticut; and four nephews.
Visiting hours will be held Wednesday June 15, from 10 to 11 a.m., at the Morris Funeral Home, 40 Main St., Southborough, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. Burial will be private.
