Shrewsbury – Margaret M. (Perna) Mattero, 95, passed away Saturday July 2, 2011, in Memorial Hospital in Worcester. Her beloved husband, Patsy A. Mattero, predeceased her in December 1978.
She is survived by her loving son, James N. Mattero and his wife Peggy of Shrewsbury; a sister, Rose A. Mercadante of West Boylston; six grandchildren, Joanne Parenti and her husband Joseph, Joseph Mattero and his wife Mae, Patsy Mattero and his fiancé Marcia Coker, Jay Mattero and his wife Susan, Jodi Fortunato and her husband Nicholas, and Matthew Mattero and his fiancé Sara Utlisky; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Joseph M. Mattero; a brother, Michael Perna; and two sisters, Antoinette D. Messina and Josephine A. Kalagher.
Mrs. Mattero was a member of Saint Anne's Church in Shrewsbury, the church Women's Guild and Golden Age Society. She was a member of The Shrewsbury Grange and a volunteer for the March of Dimes. She enjoyed gathering family and friends around her table to share in her love of cooking and togetherness.
The Mattero family would like to thank the entire staff at The Christopher House for their outstanding care and compassion.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday July 6, from 5 to 8 p.m., in Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation St., Worcester. Her funeral will be Thursday July 7, from the funeral home, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Saint Anne's Church, 130 Boston Turnpike Rd. (Route 9), Shrewsbury. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery of Shrewsbury.
