Gardner – Janice R. (Bigelow) Parmenter, 98, formerly of Northborough, died Saturday July 2, 2011, at Wachusett Mano in Gardner.She was the wife of the late Paul Parmenter, who died in 1970.
Born in Melrose, the daughter of the late John A. and Anne (Cashman) Bigelow, she was a graduate of Brookline High School, Class of 1930, and continued her education at the Mary Brooks Normal School.
Mrs. Parmenter was a historian, coming from a family of early settlers of Marlborough. Active in Northborough town politics, she was a member of the School Committee and Building Committee, and served as Town Clerk from 1972 until her retirement in 1979.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Daniel Parmenter of New Braintree, John and Jane Parmenter of Pioneer, Calif., Margaret and Kenneth Thomson of Middleboro, and Anne and Thomas DiBuono of Hubbardston; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday July 8, at 12 p.m., at the Slattery Funeral Home, Inc., 40 Pleasant St., Marlborough. Burial will follow at Howard St. Cemetery in Northborough. Visiting hours will be held from 10:30 a.m. to noon prior to the service.
