James R. McCarthy, 86Southborough – James Russell “Russ” McCarthy, 86, died unexpectedly Thursday, July 7, 2011. He was the loving husband of Irene (Pendolari) McCarthy of Southborough for 60 years, and served proudly in the U.S. Marine Corps, a veteran of World War II.

Born in Charlestown, he was the son of the late John and Helen (Madden) McCarthy. A retired General Motors executive, he served many years as Plant Manager in Framingham.

Besides his wife Irene, he is survived by his children, James R. “Jim” McCarthy Jr. and his wife Julia of Southborough, Cheryl McCarthy of Westborough, Mimi Hatch and her husband John of Jarrettsville, Md., and Laura McCarthy, DVM, (Maj., USMC, Ret.) of Reisterstown, Md.; and his grandsons, J. Russell and Devin McCarthy of Southborough and Mark, Gregory and Bradley Hoyt of Maryland. He is also survived by siblings Helen McCarthy of Weston, Sister Rita McCarthy (CSJ) of Brighton, Thomas McCarthy and his wife Marge of Ohio, William McCarthy and his wife Joyce of Colorado, and Maureen Leiser of Weston. He was the brother of the late John, Robert and Donald McCarthy.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend his funeral Mass Monday July 11, at 11 a.m., at Church of St. Anne, 20 Boston Road. (Route 30), Southborough. Visiting hours and burial will be private. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Norton Funeral Home, 53 Beech St., Framingham.
