John William Fanning, 86Marlborough – John William Fanning, 86, died peacefully Sunday july 17, 2011, following a long period of failing health. He was the husband of the late Ellen M. (Brown) Fanning, who died in 1999.

Born in Marlborough, he was the son of the late James E. and Sarah E. (Parker) Fanning and lived in the city all his life. He was a U.S. Marines Corp veteran of World War II, serving in the Asian Pacific Theater.

Mr. Fanning was employed for many years as a Data Processing Manager for the Fenwall Corp. of Ashland. He was a lifelong member of the Immaculate Conception Parish, was a long-time active member of the Dukes and Duchess I.C. Drill Team, and served many years on the Pastoral Council of the Church. He was also a long-time member of the Marlborough Kiwanis Club, the Boys and Girls Club of Marlborough and the Akroyd-Houde Post American Legion.

He is survived by two daughters, Kathleen F. Stuchiner and her husband Dr. David Stuchiner of Auburn, Maine and Mary Beth Knief and her husband Douglas Knief of Milford,; a brother, James F. Fanning of Connecticut and Florida; one sister, Mary Mitchell of St. Augustine, Fla.; three grandchildren, Nicole, Jonathan and Melissa Knief all of Milford; and several nieces and nephews.

His funeral will be held Thursday July 21, at 9 a.m., in the Immaculate Conception Church, 11 Prospect St., Marlborough. Burial will be in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery. Visiting hours are Wednesday July 20, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the William R. Short and Son Funeral Home, 95 West Main St., Marlborough.
